Ride-Along Request

Ride-Along Guidelines & Requirements

Requirements:

  1. Ride-Along Release Form and Policy on Confidentiality & Dissemination of Patient Information and Staff Member Verification must be completed in advanced, and turned in to dispatch prior to the start scheduled Ride-Along.

  2. Medic’s authorized designee will schedule a date, base on availability. If approved, a copy will be forward to Human Resources. Ride-Alongs will be permitted for front half portion of 24 hour shifts and the entire portion of a 12 hour shift.

  3. Ride-Alongs must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance, this may be waived at Managements discretion.

  4. No more than one Ride-Along will be allowed on the same shift.

  5. Participants must be in good health and must not be suffering from any illness or injury, including cold, flu, or respiratory infection on the day of the ride along.

Eligibility:

  1. Every attempt will be made to accommodate any interested persons; however, any applicant made be disqualified without cause.

Suitable Attire:

  1. Any person approved for a ride along is required to be suitably dressed in collared shirt, blouse or jacket, blue or black pants and black shoes. Sandals, t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, sweat pants, jeans or any clothing with a logo or writing will not be permitted. Any Supervisor of Manager may refuse a Ride-Along to anyone if not properly dressed.

  2. If EMT/Paramedic School Ride-Along the student will be permitted to wear class uniform.

  3. Ride-Alongs must adhere to the following additional requirements:

  • Must be clean, neat, and professional in appearance at all times.

  • Hair must be clean. If long, it must be pulled back and tied.

  • Beards must be neatly trimmed.

  • Tattoos must be reasonably covered.

  • Clothing must be clean and neat, in good condition for public presentation.

Ride-Along Responsibilities:

  1. Keep in mind we are medical professionals, we must take every step possible to protect our patient’s privacy, and as an observer you must as well.

  2. Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.

  3. No photography, videography, or sound recordings are allowed at any time.

  4. Do not discuss patient’s medical information with anyone not directly involved in their care.

  5. Listen to any instructions from your crew members and their supervisors.

  6. Remember that you may be present at scenes that can be hazardous and dangerous. Be responsible for your own safety and speak up if you notice any hazards.
